The old woman of Winter calls to us in the deepest silence of Avalon.

Cailleach of Avalon 

I am the Old Woman of Winter in Avalon. My ice and snow crystals cover the land with the deathly beauty of winter. My ice-cold breath tears the last leaves away, revealing the skeleton of trees. I bring death to small creatures with my companion bird, the buzzard, with my winter winds and and the scarcety of food. I am as hard as the ancient stones and in there you will find my gentleness: I am tender keeper of the bones of all dead relations. I bring ice and frost to the Sacred Isle so that the Earth may rest in deep sleep. The gift in my cold absoluteness is stillness. I am the Cailleach.

Joanne is a Priestess of Avalon living in Glastonbury, a mother, an author, a healer, a sacred landscape guide and a workshop facilitator. Sometimes raw and powerful, sometimes enchanted and whimsical, Joanne uses watercolours and acrylics to take you to places of beauty, always inspired by the Goddess and the nature of Avalon.
